Game #2 and Citizens Bank Park Review

Updated: Oct 14, 2022

This is the 3rd game of the season for the Philadelphia Phillies. They started off by beating the Oakland A's the first 2 games of the year. This game was scheduled at 1:05pm at Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies to take on the Oakland A's for the final game of their 3 games series.

We traveled to the game by way of our Fat Bottomed Skoolie RV. The Philadelphia Sports Complex has the Phillies stadium, as well as the Eagles stadium and Flyers/76ers arena. Parking was very easy and there is plenty of parking plus it's a very short walk to the stadium. They have 2 bus lots, which you can park your RV in. Bus lot N is where we parked and we were 1 of 3 parked there. A RV and a real school bus. Pretty much had the lot to ourselves. Took us about 10 minutes to walk to the stadium.

The Phillies had a pretty cool opening before the players took the field. Not sure if this happens every game or just because it was the Kids Opening Day promotion for the day but they had kids announcing the starting lineups (11yr. old), one in the DJ booth w/DJ, and when they changed out the bases in the 4th and 7th innings they had kids doing that. We thought that was pretty awesome.

Our seat where in the 300 level as before with the Nationals Game. Entering the stadium was pretty quick and we made it upstairs in no time. We came in on the 1st base side and immediately went up the escalators to our level. I will say walking to our seats we noticed the vast amount of food places to choose from. Even on the 2nd and 3rd levels. Much better than Nationals Park (our previous game). We were in Section 323, Row 2, Seats 13-14. Very good views from just off the side to home plate. We didn't walk around the stadium, just went right to our seats. Went and got food after the 4th inning and then some popcorn later. Citizens Bank Park is a cashless stadium, so you can either load a card on to the BallPark App or credit cards.

First pitch. Top of the glass barrier got in the way a little.

For the second consecutive game, the home team lost. The Oakland A's won their first game of the season by beating the Phillies 4-1 and out hitting them 9 hits to 3. For all you former Bryce Harper fans that now boo him a Nats Park, he went 0-4 with 2 strike outs and lowered his batting avg. to .091. The Phillies were just not seeing enough pitches. Through the first 5 innings, the Oakland pitcher had only thrown 48 pitches compared to the Phillies pitcher that had thrown 68 through 4 innings. That's less than 10 pitches for Oakland per inning and 22 pitches for Philadelphia.

The only run scored for the Phillies was a solo home run by Jean Segura in the top of the 9th. The a couple of strike outs later and the game was over. The Phillies managed to get a bunt single (to beat the shift), a single, and a solo home run.

No one scored until the 6th inning with a runner on second, Andrus doubled to Center, Seth Brown had a bloop single to shallow left enabling Andrus to score. The A's followed up with a solo homer by McKinney in the 7th and then a 2 run single by Kemp in the 9th to put the game away.

How would I rate the stadium? Probably an A! The stadium is very good looking, great views from the seats, near by parking, and plenty of food options on all levels of the stadium. Couldn't find anything that I would say was bad....the escalator that we rode up on was broken and had to walk down. Not really complaining about that...more exercise right??
